This Prevention plan forms part of the RPNYC Environmental Framework.
Purpose
To prevent, respond to, and minimize the impact of oil and fuel spills within RPNYC’s operational and competitive areas — including prior, during and after sailing events.
Risk Context
Sources of risk: Refuelling, engine maintenance, bilge discharge, accidental spills
High-risk zones: Wellington Ocean Sports, moorings and berths occupied by Club boats; Boat shed area
Reputation impact: Pollution incidents can damage the environment, community support and Club reputation
Prevention Measures
Infrastructure & Equipment
Spill kits placed at key locations: Te Ruru boat shed, WOS office, Wardroom
Biodegradable cleaning products available
Member & Staff Practices
Refueling protocols: Nozzle control, drip trays
Engine maintenance done only within Chaffers or Evans Bay hard
Waste oil and filters disposed of via approved collection points
