Whether you’re new to sailing, returning after a break, or a seasoned racer, there’s something here for everyone. From competitive racing and cruising to community events and relaxed social gatherings, our club offers opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved.

For over 140 years, RPNYC has been a cornerstone of Wellington’s maritime community. As we look to the future, we are focused on creating a club that is inclusive, sustainable, and connected – connected not only to the sea, but also to each other and our broader community. We're proud to represent Wellington's sailing culture and are committed to growing the sport at every level, from youth development through to national and international competition.

There are many ways to take part, and you don’t need to own a boat. You can crew in a race, volunteer in the start box or on our support vessel Te Ruru, or help out or hang out in the wardroom – behind the bar or in the galley, keeping hungry sailors fed. Our members also contribute to the Club in various ways, from mentoring new sailors to lending a hand at social events. However you join in, you’ll be part of a supportive and welcoming community.

Joining is easy, and we offer a range of membership options to suit your interests – whether you’re here to sail, connect socially, or enjoy being part of the club. From individual to family memberships, there’s a place for everyone who shares a passion for the sea and a desire to be part of something special.

Our sailing calendar is designed with variety in mind – harbour races, offshore events, twilight series, and relaxed cruising days all feature throughout the season. We also offer regular training opportunities to help individuals develop their skills and confidence. For younger sailors, our youth programmes provide clear pathways to develop both on and off the water.

As we move into our 150th season and beyond, we’re guided by a vision of being Wellington’s leading sailing club – thriving, diverse, and future-focused. We’re investing in sustainability, strengthening our community partnerships, and preserving the legacy that has shaped us.
