A shared commitment to sustainability, stewardship, and community action at Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, Version1.0 adopted on 14 October 2025.
Our Commitment to the Environment
We are a community of sailors, outdoor enthusiasts, and ocean lovers. As custodians of Wellington Harbour / Te Whanganui-a-Tara, we believe that sailing and sustainability go hand in hand. Through leadership, education, and action, we aim to embed sustainability into every aspect of club life — from daily operations to regattas, from member behaviour to long-term planning - and protect the waters we sail on for generations to come.
Guiding Principles
These articulate the essence and intention behind Clean Club—why it exists and what it stands for.
Lead by Example: We champion sustainable practices on and off the water, inspiring others through visible action and shared experiences.
Share Knowledge, Strengthen Community: We believe sustainability thrives through open dialogue, education and mutual support of like-minded groups.
Celebrate Progress: We recognise and reward efforts—big and small—that contribute to a cleaner, greener sailing culture.
Respect the Environment: We treat Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington Harbour and all marine spaces as taonga, worthy of care and protection.
Keep It Fun: We believe sustainability can be playful, creative, and deeply rewarding.
Everyone Has a Role: Whether you’re rigging a boat, pouring a drink, or cheering from the deck — your choices matter. Sustainability isn’t a side project; it’s part of how we sail, connect, and grow together.
