Youth Scheme holiday programme.

Enjoying wellington weather in July are the Youth Scheme sailors here from our regional centres. We have students, 16 in total from New Plymouth, Napier, Gisborne and Otago, ranging in age from 14 to 16.The idea behind these four day courses is to give these young sailors a taste of the youth programme for when they may find themselves moving to Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch for university. So that they can continue with their sport.

Matt Steven is the instructor and although the weather wasn’t conducive to match racing on Monday they enjoyed theory and designing sails. Tuesday they had a chance for some wellington sailing with a forecast of 15 knots typically easing to 25. Jacob Scammell from Gisborne added in his comments from the day that he “had survived a N.D.E”. This was later explained as a near death experience ie: a broach. The parents are very happy with the programme being offered and said that he was loving it.

Wednesday is looking fabulous with less wind and sunshine so I hope they all enjoy it.
