Young RPNYC team starts out on match racing circuit

RPNYC team sending it!

The young Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club team of Anita Trudgen, Janey Goedhart, Christie Osborne, and Heather Trudgen traveled to Auckland last week to compete in the 2010 Women's National Match Racing Championship. This week Anita and Heather are joined by Hannah Soctt-Mackie and Hana Macquire in Australia at the Harken Women's International Match Racing Championships.

The Port Nicholson Yachting Trust is supporting the sailors to compete in these regattas as part of a medium term strategy to get Wellington women sailors achieving on the world sailing cup match racing circuit.

"Match racing is now an Olympic discipline for women" explains RPNYC CEO Dean Stanley. "Our goal is to have the New Zealand representatives at the 2016 games coming from Wellington and getting these young girls out on the circuit is the first step in that process."

In Auckland the team won three flights to finish in ninth place overall. You can follow the action in Australia at Cruising Yacht Club of Australia here
