| Junior eligible for NZ Laser team |
 Josh Junior, after a third place in the Sail Auckland regatta, has met the selection criteria for the New Zealand Laser team to compete in the 2010 Laser World Championship in Hayling Island England in September. The selection trial involved two regattas the first of which was the Laser nationals in Timaru. Having finished in third place in Timaru Junior needed a similar result in Auckland to secure one of the three automatic spots available to New Zealand sailors. "I had a bit on going into the last day as I was back a bit on points" explained Junior after racing on the final day. "The regatta was shortened due to light airs and I needed to finish well in the medal race to claw my way back up the fleet." A second place in the medal race with its double points was enough to see him take out third overall for the regatta and become the second qualifier for the team. 2008 NZL Olympic Laser rep Andrew Murdoch collected the first qualifier spot with two first places in the qualifying regattas with Andrew Maloney the third qualifier. The team is due to be announced shortly. |
