The Sailing Academy Keelboat Courses involve both theory and practical training using our fleet of six yachts. Wet-weather clothing and safety equipment is provided to participants during each course. We have purpose built seminar rooms and changing facilities just a few steps from the yachts. Our courses will take you from a complete novice right throught to skippering your own yacht in races or on island cruises. Choose an option below that suits you and book today!

The Keelboat Intro course is a learn to sail course geared towards introducing people to sailing. No experience is needed as we will take you from first principles through to learning how to sail. All you need is to be over 16 years old! |

The Skills Development course follows on from the Keelboat Intro course and provides an opportunity to revise and consolidate knowledge and skills, to learn about sailing with spinnakers, and introduces you to yacht racing. |

This course follows on from Skills Development 1. Participants will not only be looking to consolidate their racing skills but will explore further the tactical aspects of racing ans take a greater role in decision making on the boat. |

The Next Tack course follows on from the Keelboat Intro course and provides an opportunity to revise and consolidate knowledge and skills, to develop a better understanding of semanship, and introduces you to the wonderful world of cruising in a yacht. |

Cruising Skipper is a direct follow-on from the Next Tack course and enables participants to gain the YNZ National Sailing Scheme Level 3 Cruising Skills (Skipper) Certificate. Based in the Marlborough Sounds this highly sought after course will fully equip you with all the skills necessary to skipper your own boat or charter experience. |

A comprehensive theoretical and practical course requried by crew competing in offshore (category 1) races. This course is recognised by Yachting NZ and International Sailing Federation. On completion participants gain the Coastguard Boating Education Services Advanced Sea Survival Certificate. The certificate remains valid for 5 years. |

From time to time when the boats are not being used by other courses the Sailing Academy organises casual sails. This might be:
- Going out to watch Guy Fawkes on the water
- Joining in a race around the harbour
- A have a go day for Wellingtonians
.... and much much more.
For some of our casual sails you need to have completed a course at the sailing academy while other casual sails are open to anyone. |
