Day one report from Cruising Yacht Club of Australia

2012Musto01

Hi All, Today the RPNYC Musto Team consisting of Anita Trudgen on bow, Mike Cook on main, and Sam MaKay on helm began their first day of racing at the Crusiing Yacht Club of Australia in Syndey in their Elliot 6's.

The team is staying on a 50 foot Benateau named 'Playstation' that is more than comfortable. It is safe to say the Port Nic Teams have been well looked after at both RPAYC and CYCA.

The breeze was in the south and slowly shifted left throughout the day as the cloud burned off and the temperature increased. The wind was up and down ranging between 2-12 knots. It was described my New Zealand sailing legend Roy Dickson as a "mine field". Kate Johnson-Lee and Sam McKenzie were fortunate enough to spend the day on a spectator launch with Roy and learnt a lot from his vast knowledge and experience.

Anita and Mike were looking forward to capitalizing on their result from last weeks Harken International. The competition was tough as Sam in the team had a difficult few races as the ever shifting breeze seemed difficult to pick and luck was not on their side.

However, the team learnt a lot quickly thanks to the help of coach Josh Junior. It was the race against Harken runner up, Chris Steele that saw the RPNYC Team fight hard and were unlucky not to grab the win. The last race saw Sam and the team sail even better with great boat speed and strong tactics to win the race. The team was happy to finish on a positive note and the team is confident going into the last two races of the first round robin tomorrow against Barns and Pierce.
