Youth Scheme raise funds as marshals at the Wellington Marathon
The Youth Scheme Under 21 Squad took a weekend off training to help out with the 2012 Armstrong Group Wellington Marathon and in the process raised nearly $3000 for the overall youth scheme programme.
Close to 5000 runners and walkers from 16 countries and all ends of New Zealand lined up at Wellington's Westpac Stadium on Sunday for the 27th anniversary event.
"The Wellington Marathon Clinic people asked us if we could provide marshals and help out with the registration process for their event" said youth scheme sailor Tim Coltman who organised the fund raiser.
"We said ok and ended up with 30 people including sailors and their parents helping out with taking regsitartons all day on Friday and with keeping the traffic at bay around Oriental Bay on Sunday."
"We were all on hand to urge on Kate Johnson Lee from the under 21 squad and Wellington Ocean Sports Centre manager Matt Wood as they charged past in the race".
